VF messageboard

Crossposting journal from DA. We might not otherwise have endorsed this, but DA has just forced our hand thanks to a recent update that's almost broken the site's functionality for our purposes. SmackJeeves still works fine of course, but I thought you guys might like to know the option exists.

All right, so this latest DA update is pretty dire and everyone hates it. I just want to mention that the site no longer appears to tell us when/where there are new comments on the comic pages (unless that feature's moved somewhere else and I haven't found it?) so if you ask a question and don't get an answer we probably never knew you said anything and you should, I don't know, send a note or something to be sure of a response? This is awful.

It seems an opportune time to mention that the folks at Pokemon Crossroads recently set up a messageboard for Victory Fire. I would have mentioned it earlier but they didn't notify us that the comic boards were officially open If you'd like to talk about PMD:VF in a setting somewhat more conducive to social interaction, the link is here:

Pokemon Crossroads Comics Central

VF is the last board on the list, you can't miss it.

We don't yet have an account there but they've promised us mod privileges when/if we do get around to signing up. Be nice to each other. Or else.

If DA's interface gets any worse, we probably will sign up and anyone who wants to talk to us or ask us stuff will at least be able to do it there.

A loss

I don't want to say too much about it for personal reasons, but there has been a death close to us. I (Maggs) will be running the comic solo for a while as Night is not up to it right now.

At the moment I expect the comic to continue on its usual schedule, there are plenty of pages in the buffer, but obviously we will eventually hit a point at which the script is not being edited and proof-read in the same way, and the feel may change a little bit.

Victory Fire Explained by the Cast!

Hey guys. Here we are, about two years and nearly 200 pages later, we realize we've got a lot of plot going on and a recap is in order. Or for those just joining us, who don't mind a few spoilers, it's a quick way to get up to speed with the current pages.

So, we present to you our new summary feature:

Your character in Victory Fire?/CLOSED

We've had tons of submissions for this! Thanks everyone!

We will shortly be arriving in Treasure Town, ledians and gentlemons, and we are looking for extras. That's right, guys. We need some walk-on roles filled and it's your job to fill them!

VF is pretty conservative by fan character standards, so we're going to have to limit your imagination just a little. Rules are simple:

No highly noticeable shiny pokemon or highly noticeable non-standard colors. Orange Pikachu is fine. Silver Eevee or white Charizard are not.
    No legendaries.
Accessories, battles scars, and other distinguishing markings are acceptable, within reason of course. (No zebra pattern squirtles, please :D )

Just fill out this form and reply or send us a PM! One per person, please.

    Your character's name:
    Your character's species:
    Brief description for our artist:

Every character that we use will get a linkback to the owner's SJ profile in the author's comment for that page. If you have a PMD fan-comic, let us know and we'll link to it as well.

See you in Treasure Town!

VF Creative Process

Just a note to say there is a tutorial on the DA account. It deals with the script to sketch to lineart aspect of drawing in MS Paint. A color one will hopefully be forthcoming sometime in the future.

Would you like VF to go to three pages a week?

Some people have expressed interest in buying merchandise like bound volumes of Victory Fire. We can't do that, unfortunately, we don't own the copyright for Pokémon, so that's illegal :) However, if you would like to support Victory Fire in a different way, we have now added a Paypal tip jar.

Why a tip jar? Here's the situation:

VF's artist is disabled, and the changing political climate in the UK
has resulted in wide-ranging cuts to essential services and the
scrapping of the Disability Living Allowance. It's no stretch to say
that pretty much every disabled person in the UK is or will soon be
feeling the effects of this. Any money you choose to throw at the tip
jar will go towards our artist's day-to-day living expenses. This is
not a drive to buy us iPads or fancy hardware! Right now, Maggs cannot
afford to buy new shoes, let alone replace the broken keys on the
elderly laptop used to create the comic.

And here's what you guys get for helping out!

We're not asking you to give us something for nothing. If we get more
than $30 in a week, we will post an extra page that week: instead of
updating Tuesday/Friday, VF will update Mon/Wed/Fri.

You've told us you like the comic; some of you have contacted us
directly to say so. We're grateful for everything you've done to help
make VF a success this far.

Whatever happens, VF will at least continue to update on the usual
Tuesday-Friday schedule.

Thank you for your love and support and please continue to enjoy reading Victory Fire.

Just a note to say we've got a little contest running over on DA, if anyone's interested. :)

100 pages of Victory Fire

Yes, it's our hundredth page today. Not bad!

In celebration, we'd like to offer a free art commission. First person to comment on this newspost gets it; just let us know what you'd like.
