Well, now, this is getting interesting. I wonder, were Pokemon not really that widely used back when you had to use Apricorns to hold them? Or was it less of a "catch em all" thing and more of a one-to-one relationship between a human and a Pokemon? This is a very well done peek into some of the world building yinz are doing, and I'm so happy to see it happening. Keep it up!

Those are some interesting symbols and I wanna know how to pronounce them.

Sp they're going to go get the Space Globe from Destiny Tower. Interesting.

I hope Victini hasn't beaten them to the punch.

Am I the only one who pronounces it "Ar-see-us" instead of "Ar-kee-us"?

posted by VictoryStar (Guest) on July 7th, 2017, 12:41 pm

I wonder why Gardevoir is beside Medicham in panel 3 then by panel 6 Gardevoir is on the other side of the room. Compulsive teleporting?

Darkrai is confused about his parent's gender

Arceus is a terrible parent >w<

Someone in the devientart comments pointed this out, on page 536 Darkrai said that symbol when he was delirious with fever and they believe that he was calling out for his Mom/Dad.

I say "Ar-she-us"

5+ years into this comic and we're only just getting the mandatory explanation of mystery dungeons?

We have a "he who must not be named" everyone

Heh. Was doubting that Mewtwo could actually use his mouth for words.
But that also reveals that Mewtwo doesn't know who Arceus is?

@Malc Modnar
Nobody's forcing you to read the comic

@Little Vixen (Guest): I've been following this comic for most of those five years. It was a joke.

Wait, didn't Hoopla say Mewtwo is part of the family?

@Phoebeburgh (Guest) Well this does fall into the whole pokemon and humans being able to marry each other in ancient times if you go with Japanese text and ignore the censorship that is forced in the games.

@get in the Bag Nebby (Guest) Mewtwo is artifical. He woudn't have any reason to really know about Legendary Pokemon and their collective lineage, in spite of being one; It's like Harry Potter not knowing anything about Wizards, in spite of being one.

Yeah but instead of volde...he who must not be named killing his parents. Mewtwo did! Hahahah.....oh god...

It's a relief to know that somebody else came to the same conclusion that I did about humans being the ones who built most of the mystery dungeons (mainly the ones that follow the rules of basic architecture - aka, Buried Relic.)

(I made that comment about the whole human background stuff back on page 494, but I was pretty sure nobody read/saw it. Still kind of convinced that nobody even remembers what it mentioned.)

But I'm even more surprised that you also had my same suspicions that pokemon were a whole lot different long ago. The Jewel Of Life referred to them as "Magical Beasts," but I'd wager that before even that, they were just "Beasts." No abilities, no special attacks, nothing but predator vs. prey. And then humans came along, and against all logic or reason, decided to take them in and raise them as if they were their own "Family", and teaching them their ways, as well as offensive techniques (TMs didn't exist back then obviously, haha!) which gives legitimacy to what was mentioned during Generation 4 games, where (a long time ago, pokemon and people were one and the same, ate at the same table, etc.) And if any of this is valid, it's no wonder that pokemon have a natural affinity towards humans because it would mean that they owe almost everything about themselves to the humans for helping them evolve to the point were they are able to achieve near impossible feats and use elemental attacks that they were never meant to use.

Also, check out these Pokedex entries ladies and gentlemen!

Kadabra: It happened one morning - a boy with extrasensory powers awoke in bed transformed into Kadabra. source- (Pokemon FireRed)

Yamask: Each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was human. Sometimes they look at it and cry. (Pokemon Black&White)

so...technically Abras and Yamasks were once human. let that sink it for a while everyone.

@XD-MADNESS: I've got a somewhat different reason for the Mystery Dungeons, but I can't really say anything about it without giving away details of the comic that I keep not doing.

@Malc Modnar Even though I can quite clearly tell you comment was made as a joke, it does make sense why we would be told so well into the story what mystery dungeons are, and that too by someone such as Darkrai who has been around long enough to see them be constructed and perhaps know what makes them 'mystery dungeons'-in the games we merely know that their layout somehow changes everytime we visit them, but with no explanation given as to how or why-and such an explanation,if we are getting one, would definitely be a lot better given (albeit it might be a non-canonical one) at this stage in the comic rather than earlier-perhaps all the other terrain that Jen and company passed through on their journeys was not a 'mystery dungeon' (though given that there are mentions of locations such as apple woods, which did serve as mystery dungeons in the games, I am not entirely sure of this)
Also as an aside-I think I really like how much meaning panel 2 has brought to pokemon-I always wondered how entities as powerful as many of those we've witnessed in these comics could be all bundled into the term 'pocket monsters' with almost no other reference or reverence to their roles and capabilities-it does make sense, given that everything we've seen of the pokemon world is after the introduction of humans and narrated to us from their perspective, one that even pokemon in this secluded region are capable of having impressed upon them-possibly by elder pokemon who did not reveal the full details to them.
