oh XD002, you done goofed

You made Jen cry. You are going to have your @$$ handed back to you on a plater. This is going to get good. *gets out the popcorn*

Yeah, idk. I mean, even though Focus Blast is obviously super effective against dark types like Darkrai, I don't think either of them stand a chance at all in an all out fight against him. If he doesn't snap out of it, it won't matter how many attacks they hit him with, they will still lose pretty badly. I'm just basing this on the battle between Mewtwo and Victini. Darkrai's type advantage would wipe the floor with her psychic/fire typing, and she still almost beat the snot out of Mewtwo before the mega-evolution.

That freaking apple slice is at it again. Poor Darkrai he's just being used as a soul jar now.

Aw Jen just looks so sad and cute in panel 4. I just want to give her a hug and tell her it's ok. Gengar shadowball that apple wedge!

Is Darkrai a Ditto if he isn't Darkrai?

Genger: you're just some broken thing hiding behind his face! I don't know whether you started as him and turned into this, or you're a broken piece in his mind, but-
Jen: STOP TALKING! MORE BLASTING!

Ok, I love your depiction of Darkrai here. Somebody else mentioned them feeling mechanical, and I agree and really feel that helps here. I'm not sure how separate XD002 and Darkrai are, but it feels like XD002 is a 'safety protocol', so to speak.
As we saw earlier, Darkrai muttering "stop hurting me" it seems like this is a 'safe mode' where he stops feeling and just lashes out at others to try and protect himself. Hence why he wanted to stay locked up, less chance of something causing a panic attack, which would bring XD002 to the front to protect himself.
But even so, it's still intelligent, as shown here: "You think you can hurt me any more? You SHOULD be afraid." This is trying to create a more long term solution than: 'drive away threat.'
This is more: 'either drive away the threat so that they STAY away or cow them into submission, and possibly get some revenge in the process of either.'
@sulfurbunny hasn't gone too far into it, but here we have a very interesting look into the mind of someone who's been broken and they don't know why.
I mean, Darkrai and Victini were both broken and neither can understand why. The difference is, Victini got that they wanted to make her 'better' so she rationalizes it by trying to spread it.
Darkrai, on the other hand, has no clue why and just wants it all to STOP.
Or maybe I'm just rambling and reading too much into it. Either way, I am loving this story so far, still one of the best webcomics I've ever read.

I think the correct way of looking at it is like a split personality, or the sort of thought process that occurs when instinct takes over. Basically, it isn't supposed to be rational or natural, it's simply a matter of survival. The mind can trick people into thinking some pretty terrible things if they're desperate enough to listen to it and fall back on their base instincts. Imagine this, you and your family have no money, your house is about to be foreclosed on, and the only way to feed your kids is to sell the house before the bank reclaims it. Suddenly, robbing a gas station turns into a viable option to fixing the problem. In normal circumstances, people wouldn't do these things, but when the world closes in on you, and your way of life is threatened, something has to give.

@Guest3: You're probably referring to me, and while I'm not sure how much I see that anymore, I still get shades of "malfunctioning equipment" here. Reminds me of an episode of MacGyver where he and the heroine-of-the-week have to find a way out of an underground base controlled by an off-the-rails AI with shockingly few failsafes.

Also, I can't believe I didn't notice: It sure didn't take very long after the party split for this to happen.

That said, I feel incredibly sorry for Darkrai here. Having to fight yourself every step of the way like this can't be fun.

Now, let's see the "I know you're in there somewhere!" fight.

NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!

the bee movie but theres no audio and just a yellow screen

DID DARKRAI ORDER A HEAPING HELPING OF FOCUS BLAST BC HE'S ABOUT TO GET IT

posted by Starlyte on December 7th, 2016, 9:28 am

Gengar doing the BAMF Ghost type with a focus blast at hand style in that last panel. I liek eet.

But no seriously, poor Darkrai. That sense of lack of control must've been plaguing his mind for ages. God only wonders just how long Victini and Lovrina had a hold on this one. :L

posted by Lynxiechan on December 7th, 2016, 10:02 am

@Shotgun Chuck

But that is the thing, Darkrai knows that Jen is Lovrina's younger sister since he was the one who turned Jen into a pokemon, so its likely that subconsciously his mind is associating her with Lovrina and all the bad things that he experienced, while the XD virus is forcing his aggressive state. In short, he's gradually going insane due to the emotional imbalances present. And even if he regains control, its going to keep happening again and again until he's purified, or until he either eliminates Jen and her older sister, and/or he kills himself (No, that's not a mistype - XD virus forces a pokemon into an aggressive state, and said pokemon won't stop fighting until either they've won or until they faint/die - that's just how the virus works.)

Like I said, something has to give.

YEEEAAAAHHHHH KILL HIM

Imeanwhat?

@Noobaraptor In XD there were two ways to cure/purify a shadow Pokémon, the first was through professor Crane's purification chamber; but in this comic it has been destroyed. The second way was through summoning Celebi in a place called agate village and having it purify the Pokémon; but again, the comic has already stated this will not work (something to do with celebi's power only working once or something.)

He's not darkrai, he's. *removes mask* BATMAN!

@Firelord

It never mentioned the shadow purification tech being destroyed, they just weren't able to find it. Most likely it's hidden, or its being used by someone else.

Michael and Krane were the last people who used the Snagem & purification tech, so it's likely that either of them would know, but referring to earlier points in the comic, something happened to Krane (N mentioned that Krane was afraid to talk to him - and that that he was tracking somebody else down - likely Michael, but possibly it was Lovrina or Jen he was referring to), and Michael hasn't been mentioned at all, so most likely, Wes doesn't even know he exists, or he's just not going to be in this comic. But I find it hard to believe that he won't at least make an appearance (maybe in a flashback) due to Gale of Darkness being a thing in this story. Well, that is...unless things take an even darker path and somebody decided to kill off both Michael and Krane, which would explain why they haven't turned up yet.

Like a few others have said before, they will have to go back to the human world to find the shadow tech eventually since both Darkrai and Victini are too far gone at this point. And that still doesn't include Hoopa, who is obviously struggling with either his shadow going haywire (again), or he's been infected as well. And since it seems that legendary pokemon are the only ones shown so far as being capable of crossing over at will, I'd say Mewtwo is the only one left that is able to pull it off right now.

Dang, I sometimes forget how many plot points are going on in this.

Darkari has had XD002 running through his system for really 3 pages straight now... something just snapped in his brain to make him go crazy. I really hope that nothing bad happens, or that he hurts Jen.

@guest yeah, there's so much stuff going on in this comic I get confused about stuff sometimes. I completely forgot that they just couldn't find anything on the purification tech.

So don't Gengar's eyes normally glow red like that when he's using Aura Sight? So what if Darkrai's possessed by something, and Gengar's able to see its aura?
