Aww! Jen's holding Darkrai's hand!

Panel 5 really gets ya. That panel basically defines all the things Sulfurbunny does right with this comic.

The moment we all have been waiting for is coming closer...

What will happen? Will Gardevoir forgive him? Will this be the last time we heard of Gengar?

Last time to place your imaginary bets!

I bet 100 poke she will firstly punch him and then hugs him.

oooOoOoooOhhh Shheeeiiiitttt, Gengar's cover is busted! Now he knows that she knows that he knows that he was her old trainer! All aboard the drama train, next stop, long overdue character development! XD

There is nothing awkward about two being knowing each other across time and space and being reunited in a different form to discuss one particularly shitty moment in their previous lives just when the world is at risk of being destroyed by a deranged little psychopath and a beat-up recently released prisoner.

Really, the whole VF is about redemption. I can't get why some people would even thought Victini would die or something.

"Darkrai, the Pitch-Black Pokemon. Folklore has it that on moonless nights, this Pokemon will make people see horrific nightmares." Is an adorable little shadow.

Now's your chance Gengar, work your mojo on her!

What game is your picture from, I remember it somewhere but I forgot the name.

Also I agree, panel 5 is good. I wonder how the hell he can draw that way.

Yeah..Panel 5 could use a textless wallpaper version....that is pretty well done.

Oh right, hi, new reader, found this comic 2 or 3 days myself upto date...I think I should give it another read over too, anywho.

So the waited for Gengar/Gardenvoir talk looks like it's gonna start soon. And honestly while I kinna want to see this talk...what I'm really waiting for is something to click through on Gengar...

Actually before I start this..please note this is more for discussion, not a suggestion to the author....just seems like the best place to discuss this.

Anyway, Gengar is afraid of his..well...of the things that are normal for a gengar..of being mean, cruel, of losing what humanity he has left..of hurting others.

I..really want to see him come to grips to that...with his own nature...and actually figure out it isn't evil...and in fact that prankster nature (which I think he seems to have..and trying to repress...right now successfully) can be used to help others. The same way he used his ability to eat dreams, something seen as bad, to stop Darkrai from giving those nightmares. I'm honestly waiting, and hoping, he'll wind up understanding he can indulge that nature to poke fun, to play tricks on, etc. And help lighten moods, help make people laugh, and that when done correctly they won't be seen as attacks, but instead understand there is a lot of trust involved on both sides. Those he pokes at to trust he isn't doing this to be cruel..and he isn't trying to hurt them, and trust on his side that, those he goes at understands this and will talk about actual pains maturely, as they understand he is not trying to be mean, this is just part of how he likes to play/interact.

Though this is prob a bias of mine...being raised in an area where if you didn't poke fun at someone...that meant there was something bad going on and you felt like you had to walk softly as you lost your trust to know when you are pushing too far...

It just makes Gengar feel...extreemly broken to me right now, maybe more than he is meant to feel, because his personality seems the type that he should be doing a more aggressive type of banter with friends, and playing occasional pranks to try and lighten up the mood.

Awkward conversation time!

I'm hoping that Gengar says something like, I'm sorry, but trying to remember me isn't worth it. A long time ago I was a jerk and a coward. I have tried to change, but what happened in the past can never be forgiven.

posted by shiny umbreon (Guest) on November 18th, 2016, 12:15 pm

Here comes the hardest moment of his life.

The moment he asks for forgiveness, question is will he get it.

Personally, yes, he should get it, he's not that person anymore, that person is gone. Dead.

Gangar is free of that past, but I kind of wonder if he misses anything from then? Namely his family. Or is he even able to remember their faces at all at this point given how long he's been alive.

This is a huge moment - it's the resolution Rescue Team never gave us, and it has the potential to give Gengar a final moment of redemption.

But plot aside, a lot of people mentioned really liking this page aesthetically. I was curious as to why that was, so I looked a bit deeper. The result?

In all seriousness, there's some really impressive work going on here with layout and lines of motion. I thought it was interesting to try to look at this page "under the hood" as it were, and figured I'd share my findings just for the fun of it.

@Tallen: No, no, nothing awkward at all.

@Junion: I think you have something there; I kind of know what you mean, about him seeming like the type to use jokes and pranks to make people laugh, not to be mean. To be honest, I'm kind of that way myself, or at least I like some of it in people (both real and fictional), as long as they don't carry it over the top. :)

@Malc Modnar: ...How did you figure that out?

As for what I have to say for this comic, I think it is only four things: Wow, this talk is going to be interesting, Gengar, put away that insincere grin, you're not fooling anyone, "Meetcha at Pokemon Square!" is giving me the strangest sense of foreboding, and...Darkrai. Darkrai and Jen. JEN HOLDING DARKRAI'S HAND TO MAKE HIM FEEL BETTER, DARKRAI ASKING IF THIS IS HIS FAULT, JEN SAYING IT'S NOT, DARKRAI AND JEN SQUEEE <3

(Before you think anything gross, NO, I'm not shipping them, I just think that's super cute.)

Just Binge Read the whole thing in one sitting....

.... and I am loving it! The author has captured themselves a new reader!

Nice Catch.

@Malc Modnar I have to say very nice catch, how did you come up with this?

posted by MercenaryX on November 21st, 2016, 1:13 pm

@ReaderWriterNerd&Geek: @MercenaryX: A mixture of introductory art classes and having way too much free time, that's how.

posted by Malc Modnar on November 21st, 2016, 11:58 pm

@Malc Modnar: Ah, there you are, that explains it. It was interesting, anyway! Showed me how much thought can go into *placement* of people in your drawing. It's one of those things as a viewer you don't think about, except as a subconscious, "Oh, I understand this picture, this is what is going on."

posted by ReaderWriterNerd&Geek on November 22nd, 2016, 6:28 am

Yeah, @PJSam is right, it's the Red knight from Castle Crashers.
