"Oh" is right.

Huh. And here I was betting on Wes winding up as a Scrafty.

Now we have some interesting questions to answer: where exactly are they, for starters? N the Genius here worded his request in the worst way possible - "help us reach Mewtwo", not "take us to Mewtwo" - so simply getting them through the barrier between the worlds fulfills the terms of the request.

Also, they're now both susceptible to the XD process. Not sure if that's going to become relevant, but it would certainly be ironic.

posted by Malc Modnar on September 20th, 2016, 3:42 am

Now you see, until I saw this I would have said that giving N a sudden bout of idiocy so as to go "and then everyone was pokemons lol" wasn't sulfurbunny's style. I guess I was wrong, though it's evident from this page that the situation is not being played lightly or cheaply - @sulfurbunny is apparently a much better storyteller than I.

Either that, or N is actually some kind of devilish genius in the process of playing Hoopa like a fiddle, but at this point I think that theory of mine is deader than a doornail.

As an aside, I was totally rooting for the "Wes is an Eevee, Umbry and Espy never let him live it down" angle, but that would have just been a cheap laugh and, as I said above, sulfur is a much better storyteller than me.

  "No Seriously, I'm Really N"

Unless Wes has his Pokeballs on him still it's going to be hard to convince anybody that they're who they say they are. "Mewtwo, for the last time I really am N, just read my mind already! ...Wait what do you mean you can't?"

Least they got fairly powerful forms...now let's see if they know how to use them :)

posted by Midnight_Cat on September 20th, 2016, 6:32 am

@SkyHooves Unfortunately, I don't think they did, because that would make the Lovrinna problem as simple as using a Revive and a Potion (both of which any responsible trainer should have).

As for what I think of their new forms: They're lucky they both turned into bipedal Pokemon, since their muscles at least move more or less the same. In fact, all (conscious) humans so far have turned into bipedal Pokemon... I wonder if this is a coincidence...

I just knew that N would be a Zoroark!

posted by littlekirby61524 on September 20th, 2016, 8:44 am

As awesome as becoming a Zoroark is, there's one huge drawback: Since both of them are now Dark-types, it's quite possible Mewtwo won't be able to contact either of them (assuming he would talk to Wes) or read either of their minds to confirm they are who they claim to be.

That seems a little cheaty that they are in evolved forms. You never got to be evolved forms when you start in those games :D

posted by Kitleena on September 20th, 2016, 11:24 am

@Kitleena

I'm in agreement here, but then, I guess it would make sense if evolutions were influenced by their ages. Otherwise, I'd say they totally lucked out on the RNG gamble. N's form is pretty powerful to start off with too, since he can use illusions that make him look like other pokemon. And Wes can learn bulldoze or earthquake at his evo.

As for Wes, all I can really say about him is crickey mate!

posted by XD-MADNESS on September 20th, 2016, 11:31 am

N, ya dun goofed.

You know, I don't think N reads enough, because if he'd gone through as many fantasy stories as I have where the exact wording of your request and such things are very important, he'd have been a lot more suspicious and a lot more careful in the phrasing of his wish. Now they don't know where they are, where Mewtwo is in relation to them, or how to get home.

I bet next page Wes is berating N up and down for being an idiot.

(Is that pink thing in the corner Lovrina...?)

  Well then

They better hope they don't come across any fairy types, or they're both screwed typewise. Even if Wes does still have Espeon and Umbreon, that's only 1 of 4 conscious pokemon that aren't weak to fairy...

Wait...

If Wes does have his pokemon, does N still have that misdreavus on him too? :o

  I saw this coming.

I saw it coming, if you remember? that island is under the control of one of the legendary Pokemon. As such, only Pokemon are allowed to inhabit the inland. Meaning of course, if they arrived as Human beings, not only would they stick out, they would be in serious trouble with the Legendary.

Theory

Hmmm....I just noticed something funny...every human that has been transformed into a Pokemon has taken on a humanoid form (that is to say they rely on their hind legs to walk). Not sure if this actually means something or if I'm just overthinking it :)
Also, question for the author: Do you dislike drawing people? N and [that other guy, I forget his name] only appeared for about a chapter, and they became Pokemon by the end of it :P

posted by Midnight_Cat on September 20th, 2016, 5:34 pm

*looks at comments* it was pretty obvious that would happen. I mean it was pretty much set up from the moment Wes was suspicious.

@Midnight_Cat
I'm quite happy to draw people, but it's a PMD comic :P

@smartboyathome
Yes, specifically selecting bipeds with hands or at least manipulator appendages. That way everyone will move around in a similar manner, eye contact between individuals can be made naturally and group shots make sense. I don't want the extra hassle of having to constantly lampshade day-to-day tasks with a quadruped. I know a lot of PMD comics are fine with it, Eevee and Vulpix may be the most popular protagonists overall, but I've never been quite able to justify in my head how a creature without hands could manage a bag full of apples!

@Dankrushen
aw thanks :) and yes, VF is updated twice a week, every week, same time every week, and has been ever since it started. We may well be the most reliable fan comic on the internet at this point.

@sulfurbunny

Dear Sulfurbunny,

Your comic is amazing!!! The characters complex, the plot mysterious, and the artwork beautiful! Gengar and Jens friendship is so sweet, and i have always been a fan of N and Mewtwo. You are really good at this. You picked simply the best forms for N and Wes (Which is quite hilarious that. pop! they are now Pokémon!)You are a skilled artist and writer, leaving us hooked at every turn. This is the most magnificent comic I've ever read, and i will belligerently defend it. You are talented!

Inb4 Jen also made a wish on Hoopa to find a way to get her sister out of the nightmare and Hoopa did the same thing she did to Wes and N.

Also if human can become Pokemon, then maybe Pokemon can become humans? Would be a shock for Mewtwo if it happens to him

Wait, I just realized something. If they're there, how are they going to get the purification tech to fix Victini, Darkrai, or any other infected mons. Mewtwo resisting it is one thing because he is powerful enough to do that obviously. But I don't see that happening with any others.

Basically, they really will eventually need to cross back over to retrieve the shadow tech, which means Mewtwo might need to find a certain someone who changed his mind about carrying out mass genocide.

Im talking about Miror B of course! Man, these two go way back I swear. Never has there been truer friendship than Miror B and Mewtwo! Heck, they're practically war buddies, always buying each other rounds at the bar :)

hmm? Oh yeah, I recall there being somebody else too, but the boy's name eludes me somehow....ahh who cares, Miror B confirmed! Yeeeehaaawww!!! XD

I never even thought of Krokorok or Gourgeist. Intresting, but fitting. And just a thought - if the Mewtwo from the anime is here, then this whole thing takes place in that world, right? But N's eyes in the anime were blue instead of green. I mean, I don't have a problem with this XD I was just wondering.

*Slowclap* Well played Sulferbunny, well played indeed.

Quote: "Mewtwo, for the last time I really am N, just read my mind already! ...Wait what do you mean you can't?"

WES as he Facepalms Epicly: "N! YOU ARE A DARK TYPE, THE SAME GOES FOR ME TO! Of course he can't read your mind or mine!"

@sulfurbunny Well played man, I knew N would be a Legendary, wasn't sure you would go with that one, as for Wes and the Girl, I didn't expect either really, and I really hope Wes' Pokemon and the misdreavus made it across with them. REALLY I do hope so, can just imagine Espeon and Umbreon having fun at Wes' expense. And what if the Misdreavus started to hit on N or Wes because they are Pokemon that she likes. Best make sure none of them end up in Daycare.

But I didn't expect for Lovrinna to end up as one of the new Pokemon, but the pink hand hair suits her, I hope her Pokemon can teach her how to be one, that would end up being a very cute scene.

Please make it happen in some way or format @sulfurbunny, PLEASE! I'm on my hands and keens here before you!

posted by Starlyte on September 23rd, 2016, 6:28 am

@MercenaryX
Zoroark's not a legendary of any kind (and its stats aren't even that good tbh), it just had an unusual limited initial method of acquisition, somewhat like Rotom (only one, special encounter with legendary music, DPP) and Eevee (only one, gift RBY) in prior gens. Like them, it's also catchable in the wild nowadays.

posted by sulfurbunny on September 23rd, 2016, 7:21 am

@sulferbunny

Especially if you play pokemon go, my area is saturated in eevees. Mind you i only play it very sparingly, i live next to a park so I don't have to worry about issues like the stories going on with this game. At least it got kids to go outside and get some exercise.

I thought zoroak was a legendary, mind you the fact that it has a child form didn't seem to click since we have Mamphrey. I got one when they first came out and it net me a freaking Celibi, FROM JAPAN!

At least Mamphery was the excuse I was thinking of at the time, and it proves legendarys can breed, just not in any meaningful way for players in the game.

posted by MercenaryX on September 23rd, 2016, 12:40 pm

Well, i was thinking along the lines of Mamphry. The breedable legendary pokemon? Mostly because I thought it was the same.

Also if you play pokemon go in my area you will find that there are eevees everywhere. I don't play Pokemon go all that much, yes it helped get kids outside for exercise, but it has just done as much harm as good.

posted by MercenaryX on September 23rd, 2016, 1:21 pm

Well at least now N can sucker punch Hoopa for that delicious 4x damage next time they meet.
This was the only right pokemon for N to turn out as, he already had the hair.

Oh, and also illusions.

posted by Pokémonpronoreally (Guest) on September 24th, 2016, 12:25 pm

@SkyHooves I'd feel fairly safe wagering that Wes's pokemon didn't come with. After all, N specifically said "the three of us". Hoopa, as a pokemon, would likely count Wes's mons as their own individuals, meaning for them to come along, N would have had to have asked about helping the FIVE of them reach Mewtwo.
Also, somebody already pointed out the missing clothes, so the Wes's pokeballs are likely wherever his clothes are, possibly in a pile on the lab floor, with Espeon and Umbreon either still in their balls, or they're out and wondering what happened.

Please let Wes's Pokemon come with him

posted by bey108 (Guest) on September 27th, 2016, 8:20 am

@guest (Guest)
Well, I wouldn't say that, they may have been transported and more then likely their clothing came with them, but got lost in transit, and since all three pokemon, yes I'm including the Ghost, where with the clothing, there's a chance that they got pulled along and the clothing was either dropped off else where or desloved knowing how this kind of transformation and transport works in Sci-Fi and Magical like settings, but the balls could still be intact and let them out before they failed and they are near by, that's my hope, I want Wes' pokemon as well as the Ghost one to be there, and be all Happy for her master to be a pokemon now that she wants her to experience life as pokemon in a very excited way to the point that it comical.

posted by MercenaryX on September 29th, 2016, 2:06 pm

Well some people already think N is a zoruark, so that makes sense. Also will gourgeist lady wake up now?

posted by the kitty cat king on October 1st, 2016, 8:29 pm

Now I almost want one of the mons they run into to try flirting with Wes, just to see him freak out and then try to explain the freakout without saying he used to be human (because low profiles).
