- In our earliest ideas, Kecleon would have been a "wise old sage" archetype, someone who could protect, guide and discipline our duo. Although he turned out to be a much more complicated character than we first realized, Kecleon did bring a Zen kind of balance to the group. He had known humans before, and though he sometimes found Jen and Gengar confusing, he understood them better than any wild-born Pokemon could have done. For Jen he was a source of grandfatherly stability in a confusing and largely hostile world, and Gengar, who had been so bitterly arrogant towards those he considered lesser beings, found a moral example to (eventually) look up to and respect.

More than that, however, Kecleon became a symbol of the best and worst of human-Pokemon relationships. Nearly all of his long life was spent amongst humans, and most of it was happy. There is no villain responsible for the misfortune of his old age--just a lack of communication, and pure bad luck.

"People need to talk to each other more." If any of the other humans in Kecleon's life had been able to explain to him the fate of his trainer--or even thought to try--he probably wouldn't have ended up sick and miserable on the side of the road. But then, if that had been the case, he wouldn't have met Celebi... so who's to say what the best thing would have been for him? As Nuzlocke wrote: everything happens for a reason.

Kecleon is unlikely to play a major role in Victory Fire again, though he'll make appearances here and there.

Kecleon, you have been fun :)
I do hope he returns for more than just a brief cameo

Maybe just me, but it's kinda similar with N and Mewtwo parting. Kecleon's story is over now.
The only unexplained character is Murkrow. We might get his story soon.

This page is simply beautiful.

Kecleon's been with this story almost as long as Gengar. When everything else about the world, characters, and plot were in upheaval, Kecleon was there, steady and wise as always. But he pays for his wisdom - he has limits, everyone knows it, and now he's being forced to admit them.

It hurts to see a character like him go. That's why few stories are willing to get rid of such a critical character - it's a risky move, but one that's very well executed here. Kecleon can't go with them. We've known he was pushing himself for some time, and on some level, we all knew this was coming.

What's more, the pain this is causing both Jen and Kecleon is clear. For them, this is a final parting. If Gengar succeeds and Jen returns to her world, they'll never see each other again. After all the things he's done for her, after all they've been through, it's time to say goodbye forever, something made all the worse by Gengar having finally grown to really like Keckleon.

It's moments like this that make this story truly amazing.

Clearly, the only way to honor this page is to create a few dozen DeviantArt accounts to favorite the entire comic, page by page, from start to finish. A fitting tribute.

@Malc Modnar
Careful, people might think you're serious about the mule DeviantART account faving thing. They'd ban my DA account for that.

Yeah.. I really am gonna miss Kecleon alot too. After all they've been through as a team, I'd say they've made the best exploration team ever c:

Hmm... I have a feeling that it might not end like this. Even though Kecleon maybe out of the group for now, there still is a lot to question about. Like what happens to Darkrai? What about Victini?

And if so.. what'll happen after the story? Will there be a sequel? owo
