Oh Arceus, i've seen too many movies and played too many games to know where this is going. *braces for impact*

Hang on, hang on.

That's Harrison, from the Johto League of the anime. Who used a Kecleon who was defeated by Pikachu.

Ho-shit. More cameos and continuity tie-ins!

So it's the opposite of a nuzlocke, not the trainer lost its pokemon, the pokemon lost its trainer...

Krika - holy CRAP. Well done! Never thought ANYONE would get that bit of obscure trivia.

Yeah, I read the comic, and saw that Kecleon was fighting a Pikachu. I've seen the League match between Harrison and Ash, and my brain connected to that in a "wouldn't it be funny" sort-of way. I went to check to make sure I wasn't misremembering, and then low and behold, that's definitely Harrison's shirt there.

Now I feel happy for getting that!

Looks like I'm right and wrong, right, a Pokemon's life span is longer than a human's, wrong, the partner didn't die tragically, just from old age. Which means, he didn't go insane, just became despondent. I can still understand why he has a hard time talking about it, the kind of relationship they had must of been real close.

So, if that is Harrison, who has died from old age.

And we've already met N, who is still youthful, there can only be one conclusion.

Some of Ash's eternal youth rubbed off on N.

...Or the battle in question was only a few years ago... objectively. Remember that he was sent by Celebi, which means that Harrison could have died in the future and she just drug him back to the past to use him as a Right Mon in the Wrong Time for this particular job....

Or it could just be a massive continuity error....

Or not, but that was really a bad joke on my part... though it makes me wish I had a 3DS and ORAS to see that diploma....

@Axies
@XNerd2
Or we could take the third option, that we used a character with Harrison's likeness as an easter egg for people with a lot of anime knowledge? ;) We can't be 100% anime-compatible anyway as some of the anime material directly contradicts the game material these days.

Officially XNerd2's first theory is pretty much right. The Player and Grovyle in PMD2 came from the future so we already know it's possible. With Celebi involved, it really doesn't matter WHEN Kecleon lost his trainer.

...In fact, if you want to see Kecleon's official time travel diploma, it's in our Secret Base http://sulfurbunny.deviantart.com/art/VF2015-base-497692379 :D

@sulfurbunny

On a funny note, supposedly the anime does take place in the same universe as main series Pokemon games.

A few spoilers ahead:

In ORAS, Stephen's comments on fighting Mega Raquaza suggest the Mega Evolution mini TV series is in the game universe. And in the Mega Evolution mini series, they comment on Ash's actions in the anime.

I forgot that Pokearth was also a part of this one :P.
